In jail St Valentine fell in love with jailer’s daughter and when he was taken to be killed on February 14, he sent a love letter to his lady love; at the end of the letter he signed “Your Valentine”.
Valentine’s Day became an old tradition and festival of Roman. This festival popularly named Lupercalia, was the official starting of Spring Time. In this festival boys and girls used to choose their life partner.
Later on Church turned this festival into Christian celebration and named it after St Valentine. Gradually St. Valentine’s name started to be used by people to express their feeling of love.
